Kage, the Shadow Rogue, was doing what he did best: hiding. Well, not to say he was hiding from anything in particular...scratch that. Kage was lurking. When there wasn't much for him to do, he would simply slip away and lie in the shadows. Was he thinking? No, Kage wasn't as complicated as he seemed...Kage was sleeping. Yes, that's right, sleeping. Despite the fact that someone like him could have such an ominous name, he still took catnaps whenever possible. Today was rather warm, andn humid like it had been for a while. The winds hadn't picked up that much, so Kage was doing what he usually did on lazy afternoons. The Trembling Leaves was a perfect spot: relaxing, and calm and quiet. Quiet was something that was very hard to find in the city; there were always cars rumbling and people talking and dogs barking. Yes, it was possible to get tired of all that. Kage was sleeping on a branch nearly covered with leaves which concealed him. It was dark and cozy, which suited him perfectly. Such a pleasant day. Kage's tail twitched and his leaf-green eyes opened slightly. A familiar scent was coming towards here. It was...

Mousepaw trotted towards the Trembling leaves briskly taking a vacation from the crowded city. True, he didn't particularly like just lying about, but it was better than nothing. He had caught Kage's scent a while back, and had been tracking ever since; he was a good tracker.
He trotted into the peaceful clearing, and immediately spotted Kage. I didn't know Kage was a squirrel! He thought playfully. His silent paws didn't disturb the leaf litter below, he walked as silently as the shadow he resembled.
He trotted to the tree, looking up and then concentrating on what was in front of him. He scrambled up the tree, NOW he was disturbing the quiet. Tracking? Sure. Climbing? NO-O. He perched himself on the branch, prodding Kage with an Ebony paw. "Hey! Squirrel-boy! Wake up!" He called teasingly. Kage had always been like a big-brother to him.

Kage looked over at Mousepaw skeptically. "Squirrel-boy? Watch it, half-pint," he meowed. "Honestly, if you truly are my little bro, you should be able to climb like me. The jet-black tom had also always thought of Mousepaw as his brother. Maybe not related by blood, but by something stronger than that...some cats thought it was odd, considering that Kage was much older than Mousepaw. Different litters were usually only a few moons apart in age, so thinking of each other as brothers earned them some strange looks. "Anyway, what are you doing? Clambering up here and disturbing the peace?" Kage burrowed further under the leaves until only his tail was sticking out. "Gowai. I'm trying to sleep." Of course, he was joking, but he liked to tease Mousepaw anyway. It was rather fun. Besides that, he actually had been teying to sleep. Oh well. None of that laziness today, it seemed. Yawning widely, Kage pretended to go back to sleep, snoring loudly. This was perhaps the only time when he acted so silly: around Mousepaw.

Mousepaw looked around, he didn't really mind being called half-pint, even though he was huge for his age, he still wasn't as big as Kage. He snorted, "Don't kid yourself, I've seen you climb, I do climb like you." He knew that he'd probably get a whap over the ear for that.. but so-be-it, it was to much fun. He chuckled to himself absently.
Mousepaw prodded Kage once again, "Hey! Wake up! So now you're a sleeping squirrel boy??" He laughed coldly into the air, such was his laugh, he didn't purposely make it that way. He started, he was losing his balance!! Mousepaw scrambled to stay on the branch, but couldn't. He slid sideways, falling. He hit the ground with a thump, letting out a small yelp of pain.
Thank heavens that was a lower branch! He thought, relieved that he had only twisted his paw. But that was bad enough! He decided to let Kage think he was dead or something and didn't call out, but just laid on the ground.

Trekite stumbled over a bramble thicket, hearing a thump. The thump that had awoken her. She sniffed. Mousepaw. And...Kage. Trekite dropped down, and started traking. It was more like lurking, but Mousepaw would paw. A sudden change in wind direction made her strong stink of badger flow towards Mousepaw, who was laying down. She thought. How far did he fall? Should she help him? Nah, he's worth next to nothin. Let him die. Keep some teeth, maybe...Trekite realized that she was slowly morphing into a living ghost. She would now do anything for food, her ribs sticking out like sticks. Ragged fur, no where to sleep, all was lost.
Trekite leaped onto a rock near where Mousepaw had landed, and she bent over to sniff him. His eyes were open, but he didn't look good. Trekite was no medicine cat, but she knew that Mousepaw was in pain. She stepped back, slowly, then her paw ungracefully hit mid-air. She was sent flying back, landing in a deep puddle. Trekite coughed and sputtered, and made several attempts to get up. Finally, when she did, with a loud thump she landed on her haunches. She shrieked in pain, and collapsed. Something escaped her throght, a sputter, a rasp. Water spilled out of Trekite's mouth as she tried to make the gentle sound that she used to be able to make...
Trekite was laughing! Finally, she got up. Slwoly, painfully, she bent over to lap up some water. Some of it trikled out of the sides of her mouth, but most glided don her sore throat, amking everything better. She could talk again!
"So, is Squirrel boy planning an getting up any time soon?" Came a lovely voice.
Trekite chuckled. Kage, squirrel boy. She couldn't see the differance! Trekite began washing her pelt, her tounge rasping over it one rythmic stroke at a time. Pretty soon her pelt was glossy and smooth. The sun reflected off o it and her eyes glowed with the long gone sparkle that had left them for so many moons.

Kage's tail twitched when he heard a loud thump and then silence, unsure of whether Mousepaw had really fallen or was just trying to physch him out. But when more noises came from below, he began to get a little nervous. He poked his head out of the leaves when someone called for him, landing o the ground with all four paws. It was...Trekite? Yes, Trekite. They had seen each other around a few times, but they weren't really friends. Kage had heard things, heard things from other toms about her. None of them good. His guard up, Kage edged toward his fallen brother and meowed in his ear, "If you can get up, now we be a splendid time to do so." The rogue had planted himself in front of his brother in what looked like a relaxed state, but his muscles were tensed underneath. "You rang?" he said dryly, noting that she seemed to be very pretty. "The way you called me squirrel-boy sounded familiar. Very familiar. You know, you must be...oh, what? 12 moons? 14 moons? The city makes us all appear smaller than we are meant to be, but..." Kage's eyes narrowed here; his own ribs showed through his dark pelt. "You can't be more than 16 moons, barely full-grown. Don't try to mess around with my head." The tom was much more than full-grown, he was an adult. Street cats didn't live as long as kittypets, end of story. If nothing else, he had experience under his belt...figuratively speaking, of course. Kage could tell from her eyes that she was hurting quite badly too, but it wasn't his concern if she lived or died. Part of him felt sympathy for her; part of him did not.

"Gee, I feel so happy now that I know you care." Mousepaw meowed dryly, ending his dead act. He pushed himself upright, holding his left paw above the ground. He surveyed the new cat with a sweep of crystalline eyes. "Who're you?" He asked, wrinkling his nose. Apparently Kage knew her, he leaned over to Kage, trying to whisper in his ear, even though it seemed a few feet above his mouth "Whose she?" he asked again. Then he switched his sapphire orbs back to the she-cat, flicking his auds in annoyance. "Well, whoever you are, ever heard of prey? Or cleanliness, for that matter? Geese." Mousepaw was a bit of a clean freak himself. He laughed after he realized what Kage had said, and his laugh really was intimidating, just like his entire persona. "She's... not.. a city cat!!" He meowed through outbursts, realizing he knew her. Jesmain. Jesmain was his friend, she used to be a rogue, and he had thought her charming, even developed a bit of a crush o her, but then she left. "She lives in a cave, cage, something of the like." he mewed, recovering his dignity. His blue eyes swept over her again, analyzing the details he had probably missed. He snorted. Mousepaw was DEFINITELY not worried about a fight, she was in NO condition fro that, and even if she did challenge them, she'd meet her death, No loss... Mousepaw thought tartly, for once acting like the young cat he was.

Trekite's firey green eyes glared at Mousepaw, and she hissed. "Of course I am not a city-cat! You actually thought that I was? Oh, I don't live in a cave. At least not permantally." Trekite's fur was now glossy and fine, making her look like a city-cat. "Opps! My bad. I forgot to introduce myself! I am Trekite, a rouge. And of course I have heard of prey!!!" Trekite smirked, laughing a beauitful sound like angles choursing. She looked back at...Kage and meowed dryly, "Oh, I would never mess with you, but I will good-humorly joke along with you!" A browd smile crossed her face, showing white-yellow teeth. They were better, but another drink would do them more good. So, Trekite bent over and a strikingly pink tounge lapped up water and a sigh came after that. Her teeth were now gleaming, and she flicked her paws as she bounded out of the puddle. Water dropped onto Mousepaw's head, and Trekite smiled. Although a few dropps hit her eyes, forcing her to blink.
[Sorry, pathetic post. tehe!]

"I'm glad that you're happy that you think I care," Kage shot back to Mousepaw, and then shrugged amiably and looked from Mousepaw to Trekite and back again. "Excuse me for not being oh-so-wise as you two, but I'm rather confused: either you're a rogue, or a loner, or one of those hoity-toity Clan cats. Or a kittypet. But judging by your, eh, condition I doubt you belong to any Twoleg. So, what are you, exactly?" And how did Mousepaw know this cat? He would ask him later; it wasn't all that important right now. Kage laughed when he heard the she-cat's comment about "good humor". Would she know good humor if she saw it? Undoubtedly, the answer was no...at least right now she was no threat to them. Blinking, Kage curled his tail around his paws and started to wash his ears. Funny, how she went from ragged and hurt in one moment to beautiful. Not that he was thinking of falling for this cat. Another small chuckle escaped from him as he drew a paw slowly over his ear. No, he wasn't the type to fall for displays like this. But, Mousepaw. He was young. And although Kage didn't doubt his cleverness and skill in battle, it was a different matter to actually 'fall in love' with a cat.

Trekite looked up at Kage, and she hissed, "I already said, I am a rouge. And I am 15 moons old." Her eyes were raging now, she didn't like that cat. It seemed that he thought she was...unexpeienced. She knew some herbs (unlike him, Trekite thought) and she knew all of the stalks and fighting moves! She trained to be a warrior! She glared at Kage, resisting the temptation to leap up at him and claw his eyes until he was blind. She blinked, whiping the rage away from her green eyes. Trekite looked back over at Mousepaw, and meowed, "So, you are okay, right?" Worrieness glinted in her eyes, hinting that she was genuinely worried. [Sucky. I gotta go soon.]

Mousepaw scoffed, "I'm fine! No thanks to him!" Mousepaw wasn't worried about Kage being offended, he did this type of thing all the time. And from the way Jesmain had described this she-cat with a few... unpleasant words, he didn't want to get involved. Plus, he thought she-cats were just a waste of time, well... except for Jesmain. "Ever heard of Jesmain?? She lives with the clans now, but she used to be a rogue." He hoped dashingly that Kage wouldn't notice the spark of longing in his eyes. And Mousepaw was genuinely shocked at the fact that she was that young, but had enough sense to keep his mouth shut, he was actually pretty competent, however his bouts of silliness looked with Kage.

Trekite nodded. "Yes, I have heard of Jesmain." Jesmain was...a cat. You know, like a cat in the distance, that you don't really think about. Yes, Trekite knew her, not anything personal. Her eyes were filled with confusion, and her head was tipped. "What, do you like her? Oh, my name is Tekite, again." Her voice was like her mind, wandering aimlessly. She was thinking of her past, her only kit.

Gleaming yellow eyes stared out at the remarkable scene from behind a holly bush. Three cats sat together, chattering like a nest of jays. Their names were unknown to the black she-cat who lay in the shadows, for she had only been half-listening. Her own name was Lily, for the two yellow optics of hers held the color of the beautiful flower of the lily plant. Lily's paws had walked the area she now stalked for almost two years now, and the Trembling Leaves had become a small part of what she called home. Although the she-cat had often seen the three Clans that lived in the claimed territories, she had never sought them out to live with them. The life of loner was much more carefree. Who would want to follow a dumb old warrior code? Her own life came first before someone else's. Why should she have to worry about feeding stupid elders or fighting for cats she didn't care about? No...Lily wasn't like that. As bad as it sounded, her life came first and she wouldn't give it up for some ragtag bunch of cats, or anyone else, for that matter. Soon the other three cat's conversation became interesting. Lily perked up her jet black ears in order to hear it, but she was too far away to pick up every mewl. Slowly, she crept forward out of the holly bush, glancing around. She needed another place to hide in to avoid being spotted. She noticed a small patch of brambles. A perfect place to hide. Grinning with satisfaction, Lily stalked towards the spikey, hard thorns. Snap! Lily's grin soon turned into a scowl as her back paw stepped upon a rough, brown branch. The impact of her foot broke the weak stick in two and created a loud cracking noise. Cursing under her breath, Lily waited silently to see if anyone had heard her.

Kage grinned, his green eyes flashig. It seemed that this Trekite had already decided she dislike him immensely. Fine by him. 'What a waste; if she really hates me that much she should test her skills and see how wonderful she really is.' The tom usually made it a habit not to talk to cats as young as trekite, and certainly cats as young as Mousepaw. But he was different; special, if you will. He thought like a cat moons older, and that was what made all the difference. This rogue...he was unsure of her motives and her personality seemed to be firey. And so young. Arrogant, perhaps? Kage flexed his claws slightly, eyes narrowing. Oh, how he hated arrogance. And this cat seemed to think she had the right to be bold and act however she wanted. True city cats watched their tongues; it wasn't all about fighting and spilling blood. Deciding to keep quiet for now, Kage watched the exchange with growing disinterest. Mousepaw could like or dislike whoever he wanted; so long as it wasn't this ragtag Trekite. Bored with the rather tame conversation, Kage's ears pricked up at the noise of a twig snapping somwehere. Looking around, he spotted another cat. His muscles immediately tensed up again and his tail twitched in warning, but his voice was friendly. "Well, it seems we have another visitor," he meowed loudly, alerting the two other cats to the newcomer's prescence. "If you've done enough skulking, you can come out and talk to us in the daylight." Kage could scent her and make out her form now that he was looking more closely. It was a she-cat, and a black one at that. Funny. 75% of the cats here were ebony-colored. Raising his voice slightly, the rogue called, "If there are any other cats slinking around out there, come out. We won't bite..."

Lily held back a snarl, trying to refrain from fighting. Although she was well-fed and her muscles ripped nicey under her silky black pelt, she would be badly outnumbered if the three cats decided to gang up on her. No, it was much better to just go along with what they said. Licking her chest fur a few times, Lily let herself calm down before speaking. Her voice was now cool and even, while her words flowed out like a gentle stream. "I was not sulking," she meowed. "I was merely...watching. I have to admit, it was interesting, for a while." Lily's black tail was curled around her paws as she stared on, sitting on her haunches. Her yellow eyes flickered from cat to cat, and curiosity began to form, coming up in waves. Her optics were narrowed with interest, but she kept her tongue guarded behind her teeth, awaiting the other cats' reactions.
